Story
Timeless elegance, classic Hungarian hospitality
Step into history at the foot of the Buda Castle District. For more than 120 years, Kacsa has been a home of classic Hungarian cuisine, where tradition and gastronomic pleasure go hand in hand. In 1987, as the country opened again, our restaurant was among the first privately owned dining rooms to reopen in Budapest.
Taste one of our iconic duck dishes that have helped make us a longtime guest favourite. Every evening from 7 p.m., live Gypsy music rounds out an intimate, elegant dinner.
We would love to welcome you and turn your evening into a memorable experience, with selected wines from Hungarian wineries. Book your table today — we look forward to seeing you.
Classic duck dishes, slow dinners, live music.
Our kitchen rests on Hungarian classics: crisp roast duck, rich sauces, seasonal sides, and dishes that have belonged on Buda dining tables for generations. We do not overwork the plate for show — the point is that every bite reads clearly as tradition.
Inside these walls, a leisurely dinner and thoughtful service matter just as much as the dish itself. We respect your pace at the table — family celebrations, quiet weeknights, or business dinners all call for a different rhythm.
Alongside Hungarian wineries on our list, we are glad to suggest pairings for the evening; ask our servers for what suits you best.
For birthdays, proposals, company dinners, or other occasions, advance notice helps us tailor the details with you.
You will find our contact details at the bottom of the page and in the footer; you can book online or by phone.

History and location
Kacsa Restaurant stands at Fő utca 75 in Budapest’s 2nd district, at the foot of the Buda Castle quarter, close to Batthyány Square and the Danube on the Buda side. The building has housed hospitality businesses for well over a century; Kacsa has been part of Buda’s dining tradition for generations.
In 1987, as Hungary opened up again, it was among the first privately run restaurants to reopen in the capital. We still focus on classic Hungarian cuisine, especially duck dishes, and selected Hungarian wines.
Live Gypsy music accompanies dinner every evening from 7:00 PM. We recommend booking ahead, especially for weekend evenings and holidays.
